Island Retreat Spa and Salon
Reached only by private boat or ferry, Bald Head Island in North Carolina’s Brunswick Islands doesn’t allow cars, so slowing down and feeling centered is a part of the vibe here. Island Retreat Spa and Salon (the island’s only professional yoga, Pilates and barre studio) offers beach yoga classes plus popular outdoor barre classes on its deck. To balance your getaway with a little more relaxation, sign up for the Yoga & Mimosas on the Deck class.
Longwave Yoga
Just as Wilmington offers an eclectic range of experiences, Longwave Yoga matches that with all sorts of varied outdoor yoga opportunities. The Seaside Yoga series at Wrightsville Beach takes place on Blockade Runner Beach Resort’s seaside lawn amid lush gardens and salty air. They also team up with Airlie Gardens for a Yoga in the Garden series, which typically kicks off on Earth Day. Plus, when the water warms up in the spring, Longwave Yoga works with Wrightsville SUP to offer stand-up paddleboard yoga. For pier yoga, check out Wilmington Yoga Center.
Momentum Yoga & Wellness
Momentum Yoga & Wellness in Morehead City offers beach yoga in addition to a wealth of indoor classes. Momentum also offers specials for those visiting for just a week or only the summer.
Nauti Dog Brewing Co.
With warmer weather comes Pints & Poses at Nauti Dog Brewing Co., which is an ideal class for learning new poses — and then toasting those accomplishments. Held on select days, the cost of each class includes a pint of one of Nauti Dog’s unique and varied beers like the blackberry sour or milkshake IPA. While in the area, pick up a PassPork and sample more beer (plus barbecue) on Pitt County’s Brew & ‘Cue Trail.
NC Coastal Life
The instructors at NC Coastal Life are passionate about yoga, and along with teaching indoor studio yoga, they hit the road along the Crystal Coast for outdoor beach yoga. For a more intimate setting, opt for a private or semiprivate class and take your pick of possible backdrops, including vacation rentals, the beach, parks and many other natural settings.
Rebel Soul Yoga
Are you an early bird or night owl? Either way, there’s a memorable beach class for you at Rebel Soul Yoga. Classes range from super early on the sand to midmorning on a waterside dock, plus a once-a-month experience where you’re invited to breathe to the sound of gentle ocean waves during a full moon beach yoga class. Depending on the length of your stay, you can register for one class at a time or purchase five or 10 classes.
Village Yoga
Village Yoga, located in Duck’s bustling Waterfront Shops, offers yoga retreats, virtual classes and more. While you're on your vacay, book a private yoga session on the beach so you can enjoy the ocean views even when you're getting a workout in. Post-class swims are highly recommended.
Yoga Village
Close out your hectic day with a peaceful sunset yoga class on the historic Battleship North Carolina with Wilmington's skyline as a backdrop. Open to all levels, this yoga series is just one of the many ways Yoga Village cultivates the community and brings yoga to places it’s needed most, such as community centers, shelters and hospitals. The nonprofit also offers discounts for veterans, educators, healthcare worker and others helping their “village.”
