Stretching across 20,000 acres and straddling the North Carolina–Virginia border, Lake Gaston is a favorite destination for boaters, anglers and lake-loving families. Bounded by the Kerr and Gaston dams, its shoreline touches Warren, Halifax and Northampton counties in North Carolina, offering easy access to open water from multiple public points.
The Lake Gaston Day Use Area features a public boat ramp, swimming area, fishing pier and reserved picnic space. The lake is well-stocked with striped bass, crappie, largemouth bass and multiple varieties of catfish, making it a year-round angler’s haven. A valid NC or VA fishing license allows you to cast across either side of the state line from your boat.
As you explore, remember the Outdoor NC Leave No Trace Principles — pack out all trash, minimize shoreline disruption and observe local regulations to help preserve the health of this beloved waterway.
