Elk Knob State Park
The Elk Knob State Natural Area, with 1,237-acres off N.C. 194 northeast of Boone, offers strenuous hiking on a 2.5-mile trail to the top of Elk Knob (elev. 5,520 feet, the second highest in Watauga County.)
