Sliding Rock in the Pisgah Forest

Whether you’re seven or seventy, Sliding Rock makes a great introduction to the “Land of Waterfalls.” This sixty-foot rock waterslide may very well be Western North Carolina’s most famous naturally occurring thrill ride. Eleven thousand gallons of water run over Sliding Rock every minute, making your trip fast, heart-racing and unforgettable. Kids of all ages take the plunge, but watching others take the ride is very nearly as much fun as experiencing it yourself.

In all, over 250 waterfalls cascade across our ageless mountains - the highest concentration in North America. Thanks to Pisgah National Forest, DuPont State Recreational Forest and Gorges State Park, Transylvania County makes the ideal jumping-off point for outdoor enthusiasts who want to enjoy the best hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing, and rock climbing in the Southeast.

Your journey of adventure continues in Brevard, one of America’s classic small towns. Home to the world-renowned Brevard Music Center and a host of cutting-edge galleries, studios and restaurants, this dynamic community was recently voted by Budget Travel as one of the “Coolest Small Towns in America.”

The western end of the county, anchored by Lake Toxaway and Gorges State Park, is a wonderland of unspoiled natural beauty. Gorges is not only considered to be a temperate rain forest, it possesses one of the greatest concentrations of rare and unusual plant species in the Eastern U.S.

Pure adventure. Pure artistry. Pure enjoyment. That’s what you’ll find in Transylvania County, the Land of Waterfalls.
