Country Stores

Up in the High Country of North Carolina, there are several authentic old-time country stores that still have the personalized service and down-home feel they've had for generations. Some serve hot meals and casual conversations, others are the social centers of their communities, and still others pride themselves on being a cultural stage for Appalachian craft, music, and storytelling. But they all have one thing in common... a link between commerce and community that makes locals and visitors feel welcome.

What great memories this brings back. I was born near Nella (they had 2 stores) and as a little girl we moved to Benge on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I would stop there for warmth and maybe a piece of candy on the way home from school. Thank you for this piece.
