America's Favorite Drive - The Blue Ridge Parkway
The Blue Ridge Parkway meanders its way through 250 miles of North Carolina's mountains. There are many ways to experience the Parkway but perhaps one of the best is onboard the Tweetsie Railroad.
Tweetsie Railroad’s three-mile journey through the Blue Ridge Mountains is relaxing and scenic – until the cowboys and outlaws show up! Children and adults can have unlimited rides on the two vintage steam locomotives and will love watching how this Wild West Journey changes on every trip.
Opened in 1957, Tweetsie is North Carolina’s first theme park and is full of history and unexpected adventure. Enjoy the rides at the County Fair and then take a chair lift to Miner’s Mountain where more rides await. Visit the Deer Park and watch a performance before heading back down to explore Western Main Street.
An old west jail, saloon show, shooting gallery and gem mining all add to the feel that you are no longer in the 21st century. The one-price admission includes entry to every performance, ride and attraction.
Located between Boone and Blowing Rock, Tweetsie Railroad is open between May and October when it caps off the season with a month-long Halloween Festival.

I am originally from NC and my heart longs to return to the mountains that I grew up in. I can't wait until I travel those old familar highways and byways again, and breath in that fresh mountain air that I know will feed my soul.
