The Charlotte To Asheville Wine Trail
Five Wineries, Distance Of 114 Miles – If you’re traveling from the Charlotte area to the mountains around Asheville (or vice versa), this five-winery trail is a perfect sampler of the North Carolina Wine Country experience.
From the muscadine wines produced at WoodMill Winery to the classic varietals grown at Rockhouse, from the small family-run operations at Owl’s Eye and Green Creek to America’s most visited winery at Biltmore, you will see and taste a wide range of NC wines and can explore the methods by which they’re produced. Plus, you’ll see some amazing North Carolina scenery along the way!

Biltmore Winery

Directions:
- From Charlotte: Take I-85 South to Exit 17 (US Highway 321) Turn left onto Hwy. 321 and go north for 14 miles to Exit 24 (Lincolnton - Hwy 27/150). Turn right onto Hwy 27/150 and proceed through Lincolnton, staying on the highway for nine miles. Turn right at traffic light onto Cat Square Road. Go two miles and turn left onto Beam Lumber Road, then another right onto John Beam Road. Continue for one more mile and turn right onto WoodMill Winery Lane to get to the WoodMill Winery.
- Go back to John Beam Road and take a left. Turn right onto Beam Lumber Road, and continue straight when the road becomes Lackey Road. When the road ends, take a left onto NC 274, then a right onto Wehunt Store Road. After 1.3 miles, turn right onto Flay Road, then take an immediate slight left to stay on Flay Road. The road then changes names to Kadesh Church Road. Continue for another 1.4 miles, then turn left onto Fallston Road/NC 18. Stay on Fallston Road for 10.8 miles, then turn right onto Ross Grove Road East. Make a slight right to stay on Ross Grove Road East. Go another 1.2 miles, then turn right onto Metcalf Road. Owl’s Eye Vineyard will be 2/10 of a mile away on the right.
- Go back to Metcalf Road and take a left. Continue for one mile, then take a right at North Lafayette Street, proceed one mile into downtown Shelby, then take a right at West Marion Street. After 1.6 miles, West Marion will merge with US Highway 74 West. Continue on US 74 for 31.8 miles, then take exit 167 for NC 9. Turn left onto NC 9, then go 2.3 miles and take a left onto Turner Road. The entrance to Rockhouse Vineyards will be 1.5 miles away.
- Return to NC 9 and take a left. After one mile, take a right onto Landrum Road, then go another mile and take a right onto Gilbert Road. Green Creek Winery will be 4/10 of a mile down the road on your left.
- Return again to NC 9 and take a left. After 3.2 miles, turn left to merge back onto US 74 West. After six miles, take the exit onto Interstate 26 West, then go 34.6 miles into Asheville. Take exit 31A to merge onto Interstate 40 East, then go 4.5 miles to Exit 50 (US 25/Hendersonville Road). After exiting, stay in the left lane and follow signs to the Biltmore entrance.
