Be A Voluntourist At The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte

Guests of The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte have a unique chance to help protect avian residents of the Carolina Raptor Center, home to orphaned, injured and homeless raptors, bald eagles and other rare and magnificent birds of prey. The newly-announced Raptor Center opportunity pairs a special volunteer visit to the Center with a tour of the two beehives located on the hotel’s green, vegetated roof. Offered four times per year beginning October 30, 2010 and called The Birds and the Bees, the experience is part of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company’s Give Back Getaway voluntourism initiative.

The Birds and the Bees is ideal for guests of all ages and includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the Carolina Raptor Center, an informative Meet the Keeper presentation, lunch at the Center and the opportunity to spend two hours working directly alongside Center staff to build and maintain habitats for resident raptors. Guests are invited to bring their cameras and to lend a hand to support some of America’s most breathtaking endangered wildlife.

Upon their return to The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte, guests will continue their half-day Birds and the Bees adventure with an educational visit to the hotel’s acclaimed green roof, home to 80,000 honeybees in two contained hives, and the source of the natural honey featured in the hotel’s popular honey pecan ice cream. The Birds and the Bees experience ends with a taste of this sweet and very special ice cream delicacy.

Offered October 30, 2010, and March 26, June 6 and July 23, 2011, The Birds and the Bees is complimentary for guests of The Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte and includes the experience and tour, transportation, lunch, refreshments and a special memento of the visit.
