Chapel Hill Home To 'Food Oscar' Winners

Chapel Hill is once again recognized for its award-winning food as a downtown restaurant and a chef have been recognized by the James Beard Foundation.

Deemed “the Oscars of the food world” by Time magazine, the James Beard Foundation Awards are the country’s most coveted honor for chefs; food and beverage professionals; broadcast media, journalists, and authors working on food; and restaurant architects and designers.

Crook’s Corner received one of the 2011 James Beard Foundation “America’s Classics Awards” at the gala ceremony at Lincoln Center in New York City. American Classics are restaurants that have been in existence at least 10 years, are locally owned, have a timeless appeal, and are beloved in their regions for quality food that reflects the character of their community. Owner's are Gene Hamer and Chef Bill Smith.

Andrea Reusing, chef and owner of Lantern was honored as the “Best Chef in the Southeast” at the ceremony. The Southeast covers GA, KY, NC, SC, TN and WV.
