Toe River Arts Gallery
Begin at Toe River Arts Gallery, a strong introduction to Spruce Pine’s creative community. The gallery features regional artists working in painting, pottery, jewelry, mixed media and more, with pieces rooted in the Toe River Valley’s long craft tradition. It’s a smart first stop for understanding the area’s art scene — and finding something distinctly local to take home.
Spruce Pint Tap Room
Down the street, Spruce Pint Taproom gives a storied Oak Avenue corner a fresh pour. Once home to Canipes Esso and Wrecker Service, this new space now welcomes locals and visitors with craft beer, a roomy string-lit patio, a full food truck schedule and live music.
Blue Ridge Boutique Hotel
Settle into Blue Ridge Boutique Hotel, where 32 cozy rooms are each named for a local destination to help inspire your stay. Operated by Mayland Community College Enterprise Corporation, the hotel — which will soon be connected right to downtown with a foot bridge — is run by students who can share local tips, career stories and a personal welcome.
Riverside Park
As you wander toward the North Toe River, pause at Riverside Park just below downtown Spruce Pine. This green space offers picnic spots, bird-watching and a calmer view of town with the river moving beside you. Soon, a walking bridge will connect the park directly back to Lower Street, making the stroll even easier.
Treasures in the Pines
Back on Main Street, Treasures in the Pines is worth a stop for gifts, home décor and mountain-inspired pieces with a local point of view. The shop offers an easy mix of practical finds and thoughtful keepsakes, perfect for souvenirs that feel specific to Spruce Pine.
Burnette’s Country Store
Another must-visit is Burnette’s Country Store, where tradition and nostalgia come together. This classic country store offers a little bit of everything — from old-fashioned goods and everyday essentials to hiking gear and locally made jellies — creating a unique shopping experience.
Taste and See Bakery
No downtown experience is complete without something sweet. Spruce Pine’s newest addition, Taste and See Bakery, is already making a name for itself with freshly baked pastries, breads and treats that are as beautiful as they are delicious. Pro tip: Creme brulee donuts are the bakery’s signature item.
