International Civil Rights Center & Museum
134 S. Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401
The International Civil Rights Center & Museum (ICRCM) in Greensboro stands as a powerful testament to the American civil rights movement. Housed in the historic 1929 FW Woolworth building — which was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2024 — the museum preserves the site of the pivotal 1960 Greensboro sit-ins, where four Black college students known as the Greensboro A&T Four initiated a nonviolent protest against segregated lunch counters.
You can explore the museum's 14 permanent gallery collections featuring interactive exhibits alongside original artifacts, including the original Woolworth lunch counter and stools. The ICRCM also offers educational programs, community events and guided tours throughout the year, serving as both a museum and a center for social justice education.
