Hart Square
5055 Hope Road, Vale, NC 28168
Tucked into the rolling foothills near Hickory, Hart Square Village is home to the nation’s largest collection of historic log structures. Explore more than 100 authentically restored cabins, barns, shops and churches from the 1800s, all relocated and preserved on one forested property.
Created by historian and preservationist Dr. Bob Hart, the village offers a rare, walkable snapshot of 19th-century Carolina life. Visitors can explore a working blacksmith shop, watch traditional crafts in action and step inside fully furnished cabins that reflect the everyday lives of early settlers. Events throughout the year, especially the annual Heritage Festival each October, bring the entire village to life with reenactors, artisans and musicians.
Whether you’re drawn by history, craftsmanship or the sense of stepping back into a simpler time, Hart Square delivers an experience that’s as immersive as it is meaningful.
