Sept. 27 Report - Mount Mitchell State Park

Burnsville

The top of Mount Mitchell, being mostly spruce and fir, remains green. There are numerous areas along Highway 128 where the beeches and birches are turning yellow and the oaks brown. The surrounding hillsides are beginning to fade from summer green to the light greens of autumn prior to putting on their fall colors. The mountain ash berries are a brilliant red.
