Oct. 7 Report - Grandfather Mountain State Park

April Byrge, Seasonal Park StaffOct. 7 Report - Grandfather Mountain State Park

Oct. 2, 2013, Top crag view on the Cragway Trail of Grandfather Mountain State Park.

Beautiful color and a busy weekend in the park tell us fall is in the air. The colors are quickly appearing, especially at 4000-5000 feet elevation. Which leaves are changing? Yellow birch, beech, magnolia, red maple, oak, service berry, Virginia creeper, sassafras, black gum, orange maple and heath balds.

We are well on our way, with peak foliage probably a week or so away. Plan a trip, you will love autumn in the mountains!
