Chris HelmsOct. 31 Report - Carolina Beach State Park

Oct. 23, 2013, Carolina Beach State Park.

The lower Cape Fear River continues to provide great fall fishing this week with speckled trout, red drum and flounder being the primary targets. Anglers are having most success in the estuarine creeks with live finger mullet on float or Carolina rigs. Black drum are also showing up around pilings, rocks and other structure in the river and Intracoastal Waterway.

There’s still great boating weather to be had with area waterways that are less crowded during fall months. Carolina Beach State Park has a beautiful marina facility with 54 modern boat slips, two first class boat ramps and gasoline and diesel available at our fuel docks. The marina store has almost anything in the way of tackle or bait that the angler may need, as well as snacks and drinks for the trip. The marina is open daily from 8:00 am-5:45 pm during the winter months so stop in soon.
