Oct. 3 Report - Stone Mountain State Park

Roaring Gap

Janet PearsonOct. 3 Report - Stone Mountain State Park

Oct. 3, 2013, Stone Mountain from the Viewing Field at the Hutchinson Homestead.

We still have a lot of green, but some leaves are beginning to show signs of color throughout the park. Tulip poplar trees are turning gold, and the dogwoods and sourwoods are showing more signs of fall color with a beautiful deep red.

During the next week we expect a gradual increase in color across the landscape. Most of the color that is being seen in the park is along the East Prong of the Roaring River. We should see peak color in two to three weeks.
