Amanda LasleyOct. 2 Report - South Mountains State Park

Oct. 2, 2013, Looking south from Chestnut Knob.

At just below 3,000 feet elevation, the South Mountains are still green in the distance. A hike along one of the 42 miles of trails will give you a different, more colorful view. Many fall wildflowers are in full bloom, and a few colorful leaves are hiding among the maples, poplars and chestnut oaks. Enjoy the cool morning air or warm afternoon sun as the first fallen leaves crunch under foot.
