Oct. 2, 2013, Grandfather Mountain's Mile High Swinging Bridge along Blue Ridge Parkway near Milepost 303.

Mountain ridge lines are now boasting the most widespread fall color in the High Country.

The Grandfather Mountain attraction and Grandfather Mountain State Park are not affected by the federal government shutdown and remain open to visitors. While facilities along the Blue Ridge Parkway are closed, the road remains open and is already becoming an ideal place to see fall color, especially between Grandfather Mountain and Blowing Rock.
