Nov. 5 Report - Crowders Mountain State Park

Kings Mountain

As quickly as the change came, the peak time for our fall colors has passed. The park had four days of really nice color in the leaves, but the majority have fallen. The remaining leaves have significantly degraded colors, giving slopes within the park the appearance of having rusted over the past two nights.

As always, there are small spots of color along the trails. Many of the maples are still changing, but the overall color scheme is yellow and dark rusty red. It’s unfortunate fall foliage didn't last longer than it has in past years.

There will be a Volunteer Trail Workday on Nov. 16, 2013 from 8:00 am–12:00 pm, beginning at the Boulders Access Area at the southern end of the park. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Participants will need to wear work clothes, bring gloves and wear boots or shoes.
