Chris HelmsNov. 22 Report - Carolina Beach State Park

Nov. 22, 2013, Carolina Beach State Park.

Fall colors finally reach their zenith in the lower Coastal Plain as we approach Thanksgiving! The golden hues of maples, hickories and native grape vines are seen along the park road, in wetter locations and around the campsites. In contrast, the drier, sandy habitat of the longleaf pine brings lovely, swaying wiregrass fronds and deep oranges and reds of the “chronologically-appropriate” turkey oaks.

For many, there’s no place better than a state park to relax by a campfire and retreat from the holiday hustle and bustle. Carolina Beach State Park will close Loop 2 of the campground for the winter on Dec. 2nd, but 46 rustic sites remain available for tents, trailers & RVs throughout the season.
