His winning the Pulitzer Prize in 1955 was just the first of countless honors heaped upon what many consider to be one of the greatest plays written for the American Theatre. In a plantation house, a family celebrates the sixty-fifth birthday of Big Daddy. A number of evils poison the gaiety: greed, sins of the past, and desperate and clawing hopes for the future mar the festivities. Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman played Maggie The Cat and Brick in the iconic film version.
