The Ocracoke Island Waterfowl Festival celebrates the island’s deep maritime and hunting traditions, with a focus on preserving the art of hand-carved waterfowl decoys—an important part of Ocracoke’s cultural heritage. The festival’s mission is to promote and carry on this craft so it can be enjoyed by future generations and not lost to time.
Visitors can explore exhibits from local and regional decoy carvers, watch live carving demonstrations, and learn about the history of waterfowling on the Outer Banks through educational displays and family-friendly activities. This year’s featured carver is Eddie O’Neal, whose work reflects the skill, tradition, and artistry that have long defined waterfowl carving on Ocracoke. There will be a silent auction, raffle and merchandise available both days.
More than an art show, the Ocracoke Island Waterfowl Festival offers a meaningful look at the craftsmanship and culture that supported the island’s working watermen community for generations—inviting visitors to connect with a living tradition that remains an essential part of Ocracoke today.
