The Rhododendron Festival in Bakersville is more than just a small-town festival — it’s a true Appalachian tradition and a must-attend summer celebration in the mountains of North Carolina. Drawing hundreds of visitors each year, the festival combines mountain heritage, community spirit, and family-friendly entertainment in the heart of Mitchell County near Roan Mountain.
Festival-goers can explore more than 75 craft vendors featuring handmade Appalachian arts, pottery, woodworking, jewelry, home décor, and local artisan goods. A variety of food vendors serve everything from barbecue and funnel cakes to lemonade, ice cream, and regional mountain favorites.
The festival also features a popular classic car show with 50-75 vehicles ranging from vintage muscle cars and antique trucks to hot rods, Jeeps, and restored classics from multiple eras. Visitors can also experience the Rhododendron Festival Pageant, live music performances, a 10K run, and two nights of lively street dancing in downtown Bakersville.
With blooming rhododendrons, mountain scenery and authentic small-town charm, the Rhododendron Festival offers an unforgettable experience that keeps visitors returning year after year.
