Step into the heart of historic downtown Hertford this September for the Indian Summer Festival — a two-day celebration where small-town charm meets big weekend energy.

Held in this scenic riverfront community in Perquimans County, this beloved annual tradition transforms downtown into a vibrant festival district filled with live music, local flavors, unique vendors and family-friendly fun.

The weekend kicks off Friday night with the crowd-favorite Street Dance, featuring the award-winning band Irresistible Groove. Expect a high-energy night of dancing under the stars, great food and an unforgettable small-town atmosphere.

On Saturday, downtown comes alive with a full-day festival experience—shop local artisan vendors, enjoy delicious food trucks and explore the antique car show. Let the kids enjoy inflatables, games and activities at the Happy Hearts Hub, sponsored by ECU Health Chowan Hospital.

This is also a pet-friendly event — well-behaved pets are welcome to join in the fun!

Make it a full weekend getaway — there are a variety of nearby lodging options including charming local Airbnbs, the historic Springfield Bed & Breakfast, or accommodations throughout surrounding counties. Whether you’re visiting for the day or staying the weekend, you’ll find plenty of comfortable places to relax after the festivities.

From live entertainment and hands-on fun to local shopping and community pride, the Indian Summer Festival is more than an event — it’s a reason to stay, explore and experience Hertford and Perquimans County at their best.

Come for the festival — stay for the experience!
