Airing of the Quilts is an Appalachian Mountain springtime tradition. After a long winter, spring offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and air out dozens of quilts for the seasons ahead.
During the event, local quilters display their work throughout the historic campus of the Cashiers Historical Society. Visitors can stroll the grounds, explore preserved buildings of the Zachary Tolbert House and watch Appalachian artisans demonstrate traditional crafts like yard spinning, glass blowing, fabric batik making, and blacksmithing. On Saturday, live Appalachian music provides a fitting backdrop for a day celebrating heritage, craftsmanship and community.
