Enjoy this riveting discussion about the enslaved African American experience before the Civil War in the contexts of plantation life as well as city life. Freedom of movement, domestic vs. field life, levels of autonomy, and the intersection of town and country are just some of the themes open for debate (audience participation is encouraged). After the discussion, the Bellamy Mansion will give participants the opportunity to truly understand the slave experience with a tour of the slave house.
