Point of Interest
Elsewhere Museum
606 South Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27406
In an assuming storefront in downtown Greensboro, Elsewhere is a living museum and artist residency set within a former thrift store. Originally the store housed a vast 60-year collection of material surplus amassed by local personality Sylvia Gray. After her death in 1997, her grandson George Scheer transformed the space into a collaborative art environment. Today, Elsewhere serves as a hub for artists and creatives, fostering site-specific experimentation and interdisciplinary collaboration. Visitors can explore the ever-evolving bizarre and fascinating installations where every object tells a story, and the boundaries between art and everyday life blur.
Regular admission is on a sliding scale with contributions support the museum's innovative projects and artist residencies. Engage with the resident artists and staff to gain deeper insights into the installations and the history of the space. Photography is encouraged, so bring your camera to capture the whimsical and thought-provoking artworks. The museum's dynamic environment encourages engagement, play and reflection, making each visit a unique experience.
