The Cradle of Forestry within Pisgah National Forest is the birthplace of American forest conservation. In 1898, the 6,500-acre site became home to the Biltmore Forest School, the first educational institution of its kind in the United States. Today, you can explore an interactive Discovery Center with a theater, historic buildings and a vintage 1914 Climax logging locomotive. Walk 5 miles of paved trails, then see something you won't find anywhere else: an Apollo Moon Tree, an American sycamore grown from seeds taken on a lunar mission.
