Playing Golf In The Piedmont
Yadkin Valley Golf & Wine Packages
Fairways have been paired with chardonnays to create a new golfing destination in the Yadkin Valley.

“When people think of this area, they think of fine wines and lush vineyards, but really it’s a great destination for golf, too,” said Chris Knopf, county manager for Surry County.
Typical golf industry packages include lodging and daily golf. But in the Yadkin Valley, golfers also receive a voucher for a complimentary winery tour and tasting. Additional winery tours – or passes to the Andy Griffith Museum or for a squad car tour of Mount Airy – can be added for a nominal fee.
The packages are ideal for golfing wine lovers and wine-loving golfers.
“We realized people who play golf typically enjoy wine and vice versa, so this program seemed like a logical next step for us,” says Tammy Johnson of the Surry County TDA. “Couples have especially embraced this concept.”
Now in their second year, Yadkin Valley golf and wine getaways are anchored by three courses: Cedarbrook Country Club in Elkin, Cross Creek Country Club in Mount Airy, and Olde Beau Golf Course in Roaring Gap.
On the wine side, Shelton Vineyards in Dobson headlines a quartet of participating wineries. Shelton features the largest family-owned estate winery in North Carolina. Grassy Creek Vineyards in Elkin is another great option, as are Old North State Winery and Round Peak Vineyards, both in Mount Airy.
Lodging options range from award-winning hotels to course-side golf villas to posh new rental cabins. There’s even a cozy bed-and-breakfast inn located in the heart of wine country.
Golfers have the option of choosing from several pre-planned packages, or creating custom packages tailored to their particular desires.
