'Hunger Games' Fan Tours
The Hunger Games was one of the biggest phenomenon and movie openenings of 2012, and Burke County as well as Brevard and Transylvania County continue to host visitors who travel to see the precise spots where scenes were shot and the actors spent time during filming.
"Fan tours for movies and books have become increasingly popular," says Hunger Games Fan Tours co-tour creator Leigh Trapp, who has produced a variety of fan-based experiences based on franchises such as Harry Potter and the Twilight series. "Readers and viewers alike want the opportunity to experience the world their characters live in first hand and share in their adventures."
These fan tours in Western North Carolina offer visitors the chance to experience film sites from the movie and visit hangouts of the cast and crew while they were on location.
Hunger Games Fan Tours District 12 Day Tour
Henry River Mill Village, Burke County
April 13-14, 27-28; May 11-12, 18; June 1-2, 15-16, 29-30; July 6-7, 20-21, 27-28; Aug. 10-11, 17-18; Sept. 1-2, 21-22; Oct. 12-13, 19-20
With this 2-hour tour, you'll have the opportunity to visit film sites from District 12, hear behind the scenes stories and dress in costume to act out scenes from the movie. Plus, you can participate in fan workshops including archery and making a loaf of bread at Peeta's bakery as well as a game of Archery Tag to test your survival skills. A Hunger Games-style lunch is provided.
Hunger Games Fan Tours Walking Day Trip
Brevard and Transylvania County
March 30; April 20; June 8; July 6; Aug. 17, 31
This hiking day trip tours the primary filming locations. Hear all the stories behind the film locations and participate in survival workshops including archery, camo and slingshot instruction. Lunch - Hunger Games style - is included. The tour takes approximately 4 to 4.5 hours and involves fairly strenuous hiking.
Hunger Games Fan Tours Shuttle Day Trip
Brevard and Transylvania County
May 25-May 26
Travel deep into DuPont State Forest to see all the filming locations featured in the movie. This day tour includes shuttle service, your guides, survival workshops and a Hunger Games-style lunch. Tours are from 10 am-2 pm and are limited to 28 guests per tour.
Hunger Games Fan Tours Adventure Weekend
Brevard and Transylvania County
June 21-23; July 12-14; Aug. 2-4
This two-night tour starts each Friday by gathering at Earthshine Mountain Lodge. You’ll be part of the lottery and get separated into your own District. Then, you'll join other Tributes for a welcoming banquet Hunger Games-style. In the evening, you’ll night zip-line and see what it’s like to be in the tree tops at night like Katniss and Rue.
Saturday, you’ll tour film locations in DuPont State Recreational Forest that were used in the movie. You’ll then reconvene at Earthshine Mountain Lodge for lunch. The afternoon will be filled with survival classes: archery, sling shot training, fire building, special effects camouflage, orienteering, shelter building and more. In the evening you’ll have another Hunger Games dinner sponsored by the Capitol.
On Sunday you’ll meet for your Hunger Games simulation. See if you and your District have what it takes to win the Hunger Games. The simulation will test the skills you’ve learned over the weekend.
