Weather Advisory
UPDATED: Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 5 p.m.
NCDOT Opens One Lane of N.C. Highway 12
The North Carolina Department of Transportation has opened one lane of N.C. Highway 12 north of Rodanthe to two-way traffic. The road has been closed since Friday, Nov. 13 due to sand and ocean over wash from a nor’easter. NCDOT put stone over the broken pavement in the southbound lane to accommodate traffic. A temporary portable traffic signal is in place to direct traffic through this section. Law enforcement is currently on the scene to direct traffic. Motorists should expect slow downs through this area.
The NCDOT Ferry Division will make its last runs of the emergency ferry route from Stumpy Point at 3:30 p.m. and from Rodanthe at 5 p.m. today. All ferry routes will resume their normal schedules, and tolls and reservations will be reinstated Wednesday, Nov. 18.
Coastal Conditions
Conditions from Tropical Storm Ida and a nor’easter weather system that passed through central and eastern North Carolina last week continue to improve. However, the N.C. Department of Transportation urges motorists to stay alert for high water and flooding that has closed some roadways.
Along the Outer Banks, high waves and overwash have caused some flooding along coastal sections from Hatteras to the north. Expect overwash in areas prone to flooding. Drivers should proceed with caution.
For information on current road conditions, visitors should check the North Carolina Department of Transportation Traveler Information Management System website at www.ncdot.gov/traffictravel or call 511, the state’s free travel information line. Outer Banks Info:
The Outer Banks Tourism office recommends that visitors who are coming to the Outer Banks this weekend check in with their lodging provider for information regarding the storm, conditions and travel directions. For more information on the Outer Banks, go to www.outerbanks.org or www.darenc.com.

The detour does not impact access to the Blue Ridge Parkway, nor travel to any destinations in North Carolina except directly from Tennessee.
For information on current road conditions, visitors should check the North Carolina Department of Transportation Traveler Information Management System website at www.ncdot.gov/traffictravel/ or call 511, the state’s free travel information line.
